Offering More than Just Casebooks: Law Libraries and the Decision to Circulate Mobile Tablets and E-Readers
Le, Avery
Computers in Libraries, v33 n1 p12-16 Jan-Feb 2013
Libraries today are determined to meet the expanding needs of their patrons by keeping their services and book collections up-to-date with the rapidly growing technological advances. Many have adapted to the innovative changes seamlessly by integrating new technology trends such as: (1) purchasing more ebook titles; (2) using social media sites such as Facebook, foursquare, and Twitter to give their patrons access to the latest news and events; and (3) creating mobile interfaces for their catalogs and databases to bring electronic resources and library information to mobile devices such as smartphones, electronic media players, and the latest of the mobile developments--tablet PCs and e-readers. Although there are many companies that make up the main contenders in the tablet market and comprise most of the high-volume tablet sales today, this article will keep the focus primarily on iPads and Android tablets. It discusses the advantages of tablets over smartphones and the legal apps for law students.
