This descriptive study investigated the numbers of unique and overlap titles in selected elementary schools which may influence resource-sharing decision making. A convenience sample of seven elementary schools in DeKalb County, Georgia, using the Follett Software Company's "Circulation Plus" system was used. Each school printed a shelf list including the title and call number/author of the 600.00 to 699.99 Dewey Decimal Classification section of the collection. The data were put into machine-readable form and manipulated so that the overlap and unique numbers of titles could be identified. Of the seven elementary library media center collections studied, there were 2,232 (67%) unique titles and 1,101 (33%) overlap titles in a sample of 3,333 book titles. Research by Merritt (1942), Altman (1972), McGrath and Simon (1972), and Doll (1983) shows that when 50% of the titles are unique, implications for resource sharing exist. This study showed the numbers of unique titles were large enough to indicate resource sharing feasibility.
