Integrating the deaf individual into the armed forces is one innovative concept that provides a potential method for more fully meeting the vocational and educational needs of the deaf population. The paper reports on a feasibility study to accomplish such a goal. By utilizing the armed forces' training and vocational resources, a breakthrough in meeting the educational/vocational needs of the deaf individual could result and allow the deaf person to take his rightful place in society equal to his hearing counterparts. Following a review of the literature, the study's procedures are described and a plan of action proposed. The concept used was to first establish whether or not a representative sample of institutions for the deaf and deaf individuals concurred in a need for a pilot program being advocated. A favorable response would then lead to a second phase, that of soliciting aid from an appropriate military agency and of establishing a feasibility study. The author feels, however, that an unfavorable response from the military at this stage should not evoke terminal action. Questionnaire responses are not discussed.
