A Qualitative Study of Career and Technical Education and Post-Graduation Experiences
Roseanne Perez
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Saint Leo University
This qualitative study investigated the perspectives of Career and Technical Education (CTE) and non-CTE high school graduates regarding CTE programs. Utilizing an anonymous online survey, data from 51 respondents were analyzed to explore viewpoints on valuable CTE programs, their influence on career trajectories and education, acquired skills, encountered challenges, and potential future implications. The findings highlight significant themes, including positive pedagogical experiences, career alignment, and diverse skill enrichment among CTE graduates. Meanwhile, non-CTE participants attributed their decision not to pursue CTE courses to limited availability. This study highlights the affirmative impact of CTE on career preparedness and ambitions, spotlighting the potential for expanded program offerings and increased awareness. The study's insights illuminate the complex impact of CTE programs on graduates, identifying the need for educators, policymakers, and stakeholders to enhance CTE program offerings on the local level, fostering seamless transitions for students into higher education and the workforce.
