This quantitative study used a validated student survey instrument to collect 182 Midwestern eighth-grade students' perceptions of effective teachers. Balch's (2011) survey was used. The original intent of this survey was to have students rate the effectiveness of one teacher. In this study, students were asked to rate teacher effectiveness and data were analyzed according to Danielson's (2007) three domains: planning and preparation, classroom environment and instruction. Descriptive statistics include a mean score and standard deviation for each of 62 survey items. In addition, t-tests revealed no significant difference in mean scores between domains. Results provide encouragement for including student feedback of teacher effectiveness in a comprehensive teacher evaluation system.
