A Look at Leadership: An Examination of Career and Technical Administrator Preparation in the United States
Clark, Robert W.; Cole, Belinda
Career and Technical Education Research, v40 n1 p63-80 Apr 2015
The study is designed to examine the perceptions of U.S. State Directors of Career and Technical Education (CTE) of the state of administrator preparation programs and the needs for training administrators in CTE. The study used descriptive survey research with a 59 element Likert-type questionnaire. The results of the study, from 26 respondents of the 51 state CTE directors invited to participate via email, indicated that only 14 percent had a formal program for CTE administrator training and certification though the majority identified specific training was needed. The study found no uniformity of expectations or core competencies for CTE administrators currently exists in the responding states. Without the national picture this study can help provide, it will be difficult to make good decisions about what matters in CTE administration.
