These four monographs on the education of the gifted and the talented were prepared by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Monograph #1 addresses the questions of who the gifted and talented are and why they need special programs. Monograph #2 concerns staff involvement, and covers such topics as staff development, the role of the specialist-coordinator, teacher selection, the role of administration, the regular classroom teacher, support staff, and communication. Monograph #3, on parent involvement, concentrates on forming action groups such as the Wisconsin Council for the Gifted and Talented, which is dedicated to fostering a climate in the home and school that allows each child to reach his or her fullest potential. Also covered in this monograph are meeting individual needs and promoting community awareness. Monograph #4 discusses starting a program for the gifted and talented, and addresses itself to such aspects as program development, identification, student needs assessment, and counseling. (DLS)
