A list of descriptive scholarly works relevant to Bangladesh are compiled in an introductory bibliography for nonspecialist users that describes essential aspects of Bangladesh's history, society, and culture. History is emphasized, but the listing also includes documents about social/cultural anthropology, sociology, demography, economics, political science, and geography. The development of Pakistan from 1947 to 1971 is covered as an historical perspective, but literature dealing with the Asian Crisis of 1971 and the emergence of Bangladesh is excluded.
