Explores institutional image as a key to providing a philosophy and a logical foundation for school improvement efforts. Identifies two image dimensions (cosmetic and pastoral) and classifies five school types (synergistic, candy store, disaffected, monastic, and survivor), and discusses implications for administrative action.
