The concern for the realization of a prophetic announcement in the books of Kings is evident from the frequent fulfillment claims. Fulfillment details are often included in the formulaic notice to highlight its miraculous nature. However, as one correlates the prediction with the fulfillment details, there are noticeable discrepancies. This study is an attempt to address two questions. What exactly was claimed to be fulfilled, and on what basis was the claim made? A pragmatic-cognitive model of exegesis is developed to address the former question, and an analysis of the theological concept of a dynasty answers the latter. The pragmatic-cognitive model discovers the meaning of a text semantically, pragmatically, and cognitively. While observation of clausal relationships identifies the semantic meaning, an information structure analysis discovers the main point by locating the topic and focus of a sentence. Cognitive grammar is used to uncover the dynamics of dialogues and quotations. The theological concept of a dynasty views the entire dynasty as an entity represented by the dynastic head, who is responsible for both the blessings and judgment of his dynasty. Obedience is the assumed condition for the continuation of a dynasty, and judgment to a dynasty is its termination. It is because of this corporate identity of a dynasty that judgment announced to a dynastic head can find fulfillment in his posterity. To the author of Kings, a prophetic announcement was considered fulfilled when the main point of a prophetic judgment was fulfilled or when the predicted judgment of a dynastic head befell the son.
