Microcomputer Resource Guide for Vocational Administrators.

This guide is intended to assist vocational supervisors in expanding their knowledge of microcomputers and to provide resources to assist them in working with their faculty. Section I presents competencies deemed necessary for an administrator to use the computer as a tool in the conduct of his/her job. Section II focuses on planning for computers. It includes a planning checklist, suggested topics for inservice programs, an outline for installation of a computer laboratory, a description of the Macon Computer Center, information on educational and computer periodicals, training worksheets, and information about learning resource center development. Section III focuses on selecting hardware and includes results of the "PC World" poll of popular hardware. Section IV discusses computer maintenance and operation. It covers the operating environment, computer installations, initial operation, maintenance of system components, dealing with operating problems, and maintenance contracts. Section V addresses software evaluation. Differences in evaluating administrative and instructional software are considered, and software evaluation forms are provided. Information is presented on copyright laws and tips on buying software. Listings are provided of software in use in Georgia, winning products of the "PC World" world-class contest, vocational software publishers, and typical software for program areas.
