The 21st century has brought many technological, social, and economic changes--nearly all of which have affected schools and the students, administrators, and faculty members who are in them. Luckily, as some things change, other things remain the same. Such is true with the fundamental legal principles that guide school administrators' actions and are grounded in a largely constant document: the U.S. Constitution. Remembering the underlying precepts of the U.S. Constitution is important for everyone at all times, not just in times of significant change. But it is in times of change--whether the changes involve advances in technology, unexpected and drastic economic changes, or accommodating a more socially and ethnically diverse student population--that the fundamental principles contained in the Constitution can be tools for addressing those changes and reminders that the more things change, the more some invaluable legal guidelines remain the same.
