IDEA Technical Report No. 3. Description of Data Base, 1977-78.
Cashin, William E.; Slawson, Hugh M.
The data and computational procedures used by the IDEA System during the 1977-78 academic year at Kansas State University to interpret ratings of teacher performance are described in this technical report. The computations for each of the seven parts (evaluation, course description, students' self-ratings, methods, additional questions, diagnostic summary, summary profile) of the IDEA Report are explained. The computational procedures for the 1977-78 IDEA Reports are identical to those used in 1976-77 with one exception. The means used to calculate the difference scores were for classes of the same size and level. In 1976-77 the means were for classes of the same size only. A description of the data base used includes demographic information on about 13,571 courses evaluated at institutions other than Kansas State. A major part of this report consists of 35 tables that provide all the comparative data necessary to convert the means of individual items into verbal comparisons, difference scores, percentile ranks, and other statistical analyses. A brief explanation of each set of tables is also provided. Appended are: IDEA Report, IDEA Faculty Information Form, and IDEA Survey Form. (SF)
