Adult College Career Employment Support Services: ACCESS. Emeritus Career and Vocational Exploration.
McGrew, Lee
A part of the Adult College Career Employment Support Services (ACCESS), the minicourse entitled Emeritus Career and Vocational Exploration has been designed to facilitate the entry or reentry of older persons into the work force as paid or volunteer workers. Organized into two four-week modules, the course offers participants assistance in self-assessment and development of self-merchandising and job search skills. In the modules, participants complete self-assessment inventories to evaluate their ability, skills, education, experience, and life situations. Also explored are national and local employment problems and opportunities and current part-time and full-time employment practices (including flextime, compressed work weeks, job sharing, phased retirement, job redesign, sabbaticals, job reassign, self-employment, and volunteer opportunities). After completing these self-assessment and explorational activities, participants develop a portfolio that includes a resume, exhibits, references, and other self-merchandising instruments. (MN)
