Elementary Assessment Handbook; a self-assessment handbook for compliance with the laws relating to elementary school boards of trustees and the state board of education policies for the general operation of a school district.
Arizona State Dept. of Education, Phoenix.
As an alternative to assessments conducted by the State Department of Education, Arizona school districts can use this handbook for self evaluation of their compliance with school law, which is basically controlled by Arizona Revised Statute (ARS) Title 15 and State Board of Education policy. This handbook is divided into seven parts which correspond to major areas in which local districts may measure compliance with both the mandatory and permissive provisions of ARS and State Board policy. The seven sections cover governance of school boards; personnel policy regarding elementary school teachers; student evaluation and textbooks; finances; attendance; curriculum; and student records. Subparts are actually statements of the law reworded as questions to which school districts respond by checking yes, no, or not applicable. The answer format separates mandatory and permissive questions. A space for comments and suggestions is provided after each response. A School Summary report is provided for tallying responses and determining overall level of compliance. (CP)
