A Comparison of the Preferred Teaching Styles of Oklahoma Aviation Maintenance Instructors and Flight Instructors
King, Deann Marie
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Oklahoma State University
The purpose of this study was to compare the preferred teaching styles of Oklahoma aviation maintenance instructors and flight instructors. The scope of this study included maintenance instructors in CareerTech schools (Part 147 programs) and ground/flight instructors in Part 141 flight schools in Oklahoma. The methodology included administering the Grasha-Reichmann Teaching Style Inventory and a demographic survey. The data collection was completed by tallying all demographic information and evaluating teaching style inventories according to Grasha's instructions. The teaching style data was statistically analyzed using a Chi-square cross-tabulation. Limitations of this study included limited generalizability because of a small number of participants and no participation by female flight instructors. The results showed no difference between aviation maintenance instructors and flight instructors preferred teaching styles or between any of the demographic characteristics and preferred teaching style. This study contributed to the body of knowledge on teacher preparation, technology education, aviation regulation, and teaching styles.
