The CHEM (Chemicals, Health, Environment, and Me) Project is a series of 10 units designed to provide experiences for fifth and sixth graders that help them to accomplish an understanding of: (1) the nature of chemicals and how they interact with the environment; (2) how to collect, process, and analyze information; (3) how to use scientific evidence as a basis for life-style oriented decisions; and (4) how studying science and mathematics can be a productive and relevant part of their lives. The CHEM program consists of a printed Teacher's Guide which includes blackline masters of all recommended student activity sheets and a complete materials and equipment list. Units include: (1) Everyday Chemicals; (2) The Inside Story; (3) My Sweet Tooth; (4) What is a Threshold?; (5) Smoking and My Health; (6) Mystery Spill; (7) The Hazardous Home; (8) Trash or Cash; (9) Carbon Dioxide and Me; and (10) CHEM Chronicle.
