Guide for Planning a High School Environmental Action Conference.
Wanless, Angie, Comp.; And Others
The purpose of this manual is to provide guidelines and suggestions for people organizing an environmental action conference for high school students. The format and planning suggestions are based on the methods used for a conference organized by the Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education in 1991. The bulk of the manual provides structure and detail on the various committees needed to plan and conduct the conference. Each committee chapter has three sections: (1) describes committee duties; (2) contains a checklist based on the previous sections; and (3) recommends a time line. Committee chapters include: conference coordinator, steering committee, public relations committee, site committee, program committee (concerning presenters and exhibits), special events (concerning entertainment and door prizes), and registration committee. Other issues discussed in the manual include planning considerations (developing a goal, theme, and objectives) and establishing a timeline. Appendices contain sample budgets, programs, news releases, volunteer duties, conference evaluation form, call for presenters and exhibitors form, list of potential presenters, and registration form.
