This practicum addresses the creation of an economically viable school in the private sector to meet the educational and social needs of cognitively developmentally accelerated preschool-age children. Anticipated outcomes of the practicum included development of a well-documented philosophical approach to preschool gifted education, curriculum guidelines for preschool gifted children, and a case study of the process of establishing a preschool/day care center. Program development involved a comprehensive literature search for philosophical approaches and curricula appropriate to gifted preschoolers. In addition, program planning involved an examination of processes involved in the business of establishing a school. These considerations included purchase or lease of property; appropriate planning for property modification; zoning variance procedures; licensure; incorporating and establishing an administrative structure; and budgeting (including funding sources, bookkeeping and accounting, taxation, insurance, and curriculum). Procedures followed are outlined in sufficient detail so that a similar program could be duplicated in other localities.
