Beyond the Classroom: International Education and the Community College. Volume IV. Working with Local Business To Enhance Asian-Pacific Understanding.
Franco, Robert W., Ed.; Shimabukuro, James N., Ed.
Part of a four-volume set in which community college educators discuss their efforts to internationalize the educational experience of the students and communities they serve, volume IV in this series focuses on the growing importance of community colleges in providing short-term, intensive training in international business and intercultural communication to meet the identified needs of local business. Volume IV contains the following essays: (1) "The Emerging Role of Community Colleges in International Business Training," by Thomas Snyder; (2) "The World Trade Center Institute," by Charlanne T. Nee; (3) "Enhancing Asian-Pacific Understanding in Hawai'i's Business Community," by Sharon Narimatsu; (4) "International Business Education and Training for the Fox Cities Area," by James Pierce; and (5) "Working with Local Business in the Kalamazoo Area," by Theo S. Sypris. Concluding comments discuss similarities and differences in the approaches of the colleges, successful implementation strategies, and future issues. An epilogue analyzes the international events of the past 18 months and argues for a merger of international and multicultural perspectives. (KP)
