The SAU Report: National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education Standards, Procedures, and Policies. [Videotape].
Reppert, James E.
This 25-minute videotape is a production of the Broadcast Journalism emphasis at Southern Arkansas University (SAU) in Magnolia. SAU is a state-supported institution with an enrollment of 2,500 students. During the 1998-99 academic year, a team representing the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) evaluated the SAU School of Education. Arkansas state law mandates NCATE accreditation for all institutions of higher education with teacher education programs. At the time of the onsite visit by the NCATE team, SAU's accreditation status was probationary, even though it had been continually accredited since 1967. A 1995 study cited SAU for weaknesses in 7 of the 20 NCATE standards. In this videotape, Dr. Larry McNeal, a professor of education and NCATE coordinator at SAU, addresses the accreditation process and his development of an overall plan. He discusses how the SAU School of Education passed each of the 20 NCATE standards. (SM)
