A description is provided of GUIDE-0, an experimental information system. The system serves as a bibliographic aid for students who are taking introductory computer science courses whose material is at least partially implemented via PLATO-IV lessons. Following a brief introduction to the system in Chapter I, the second Chapter describes the functions of GUIDE-0, including the search for and display of lessons, display lesson descriptors, display course outline and display course student record. Chapter III treats the system's data base, dealing with its lesson catalog, course record, and the implementation of the data base. Chapter IV covers GUIDE-0's modules, describing its 1) instruction decoder and controllers, 2) lexical analyzer for search prescription, 3) syntax and semantic analyzer of search prescription, 4) search range vector calculator, 5) sequential search module, 6) binary search module, 7) message editors, and 8) miscellaneous modules. The final chapter provides a functional specification of the data base editor, reviewing in turn the lesson catalog and course record editors. (PB)
