The Office of Iberoamerican Education, an intergovernmental body based on educational and cultural cooperation for the purpose of disseminating information, documentation, advice, and assistance in the field of education, co-sponsors (with UNESCO) the work represented in this study of library and information planning and facilities in the Andean countries of Latin America; the issue is raised as part of the Andres Bellow Agreement on education. After introductory remarks, the report presents the results of a questionnaire answered by Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Venezuela concerning library education, professional associations, relevant legislation, library structure, planning, organization, and services. The final part presents a strategy for future action. An appendix discusses the UNISIST project, an international system for the dissemination of scientific information.
