Kaleidoscope Name Design
Laird, Shirley
Arts & Activities, v150 n1 p28-29 Sep 2011
It's not that younger students can't master a project; it is that they have trouble coming up with a design for the task. What are they more familiar with than their name? The author thus decided to use names as part of a transfer lesson. She gave her students a piece of computer paper printed with a triangular shape that had a 45-degree angle. Their task was to use one of their names as the basis of the design. They could use upper- or lowercase letters, overlap the letters or not, fill the space from line to line or only partway. Letters must have thickness and not be single-line letters. The options are many and varied. The finished project is mounted on colored background paper with great results. What's in a name is a terrific design every child can do.
