An Experiment in Autonomy: Secondary School Television Use in Two Coastal Georgia Schools.
Haugh, Rita; Neubert, Nancy Malecek
Two high schools in the coastal Georgia area, serviced by a local television broadcasting station, participated in a pilot study for the Regional Instructional Television Project initiated by the Georgia State Board of Education. The Project's overall objective was to overcome two barriers to effective instructional television use in Georgia--teacher attitudes, and the need for flexibility and autonomy of instructional television use through videotaping. Interviews were conducted among the high school faculty and administrators to evaluate progress made in dealing with video equipment-related barriers, staff resistance, and student and parent resistance. Respondents generally agreed that the impact thus far on the high schools' instructional television effectiveness has been positive. (CMV)
