This 1979 edition contains briefly annotated references to all New York state history-related works which were either published, completed, or in progress during 1979. Entries were selected on the basis of presenting a new historical viewpoint or making available new knowledge on any aspect of New York history. Entries include books, pamphlets, graduate theses, and journals and magazine articles. Reprinted or revised editions of works that have been out-or-print for over five years have been listed while newspaper and newsletter articles generally have not. Entries are organized into 30 topic headings, including American Revolution; archaeology; architecture and historic preservation; census data; economics; education; ethnic and minority studies; family history and genealogy; fiction, folklore, and literature; government and politics; religion and church history; urban studies; women's history; and young readers. For each entry, information is presented on author, title, publisher and address, page length, notice of illustrations and charts, and appendices or bibliographies if included. Entries within each topic are designated as being published in 1979, additions to research and publications--1978, or in progress during 1979. The document concludes with an appendix of publishers of material related to New York history, an appendix of periodical literature, and an index of people, places, objects, and events referred to in the bibliography.
