The 1976 edition contains references to all New York State history-related works which were either published, completed, or in progress during 1976. Works are included which presented new knowledge on any aspect of the history of New York State. Entries include books, leaflets, graduate theses, and journal and magazine articles. Newspaper and newsletter features are not included. All entries are categorized under 15 topics: American Revolution; architecture, art and literature; biography; documentary; economics; education; family history and genealogy; government, law, politics, and society; guides, finding aids, and bibliographies; local studies; miscellaneous (underwater archaeology, cookbooks); racial and ethnic studies; religion and church history; transportation; and urban studies. Each entry provides information on title, author, publisher and address, page length, notice of illustrations or charts, and appendices or bibliography if included. Some entries are annotated. There are two major sections in the bibliography: the first lists documents which were completed in 1976, and the second lists those in progress during 1976. Concluding sections are an appendix of periodical literature on N.Y. State history and an author index. (Author/AV)
