Social and Psychological Bases of Homogamy for Common Psychiatric Disorders.
McLeod, Jane D.
Journal of Marriage and the Family, v57 n1 p201-14 Feb 1995
Evaluates the contribution of social experiences to homogamy for anxiety disorders, major depression, and alcohol or drug dependence. Five prevailing explanations for observed homogamy are evaluated: (1) primary assortive mating; (2) secondary assortive mating; (3) similarity resulting from shared experiences; (4) increasing similarity through interaction; and (5) responses to the stress of a partner's disorder.
