This article examines the effects of specific coping strategies on managing acculturative stress and acculturation of Asian international students, based on a sample of 220 Asian international students in the U.S. The data were analyzed with hierarchical multiple regression using Baron and Kenny's (1986) mediation procedure. The results supported the notion of the mediating effects of task-oriented coping strategies, emotion-oriented coping strategies, and avoidance-oriented coping strategies on the relationship between acculturation and acculturative stress. Also, we found that emotion-oriented coping had a significant and positive relationship with acculturative stress. The implications and limitations of the study and recommendations for future research are discussed.
