Computers, Mass Media, and Schooling: Functional Equivalence in Uses of New Media.
Lieberman, Debra A.; And Others
Social Science Computer Review, v6 n2 p224-41 Sum 1988
Presents a study of 156 California eighth grade students which contrasted their recreational and intellectual computer use in terms of academic performance and use of other media. Among the conclusions were that recreational users watched television heavily and performed poorly in school, whereas intellectual users watched less television, demonstrated the highest school performance, and were infrequent leisure readers.
