Although teacher induction has been well researched, scant research exists about the experiences of novice school counselors as they transition into the school setting. The purpose of this study was to examine select novice school counselors' perceptions of the induction process through their use of metaphoric expressions. The authors employed purposeful sampling to identify 7 novice school counselors as participants in this study. Interviews were the primary data source. These 7 novice school counselors were interviewed at the beginning and end of the school year to understand how they socially constructed their induction into the school setting. The authors' analysis of findings indicated that 3 metaphor themes summarized these novice school counselors' induction experiences: (a) fed to the wolves, (b) keeping my head above water, and (c) I'm on the right track. Each theme suggested that these novice school counselors struggled with the transition into their work settings. The authors conclude that the findings imply that novice school counselors in this study might have benefited from system support to enhance their induction.
