Realistic Library Research Methods: Bibliographic Sources Annotated.
Kushon, Susan G.; Wells, Bernice
This guide gives an overview of basic library research methods with emphasis upon developing an understanding of library organization and professional services. Commonly used bibliographic techniques are described for various published and unpublished, print and nonprint materials. Standard reference sources (bibliographies, encyclopedias, annual compendia, literature guides, indexes, dictionaries, and word books) have been annotated and grouped according to subject areas. Subject areas covered include government publications, audiovisual materials, education, mass communications, political science, history, humanities, Afro-American studies, and psychology. Also discussed are: (1) guidelines for writing annotations; (2) finding/searching bibliographies and literature; (3) Dewey Decimal classification system; and (4) rules for filing in the card catalog. Since the guide was written for a specific library course at Point Park College, it contains some class related assignments. (JPF)
