Sunspots and Their Simple Harmonic Motion
Ribeiro, C. I.
Physics Education, v48 n5 p586-588 Sep 2013
In this paper an example of a simple harmonic motion, the apparent motion of sunspots due to the Sun's rotation, is described, which can be used to teach this subject to high-school students. Using real images of the Sun, students can calculate the star's rotation period with the simple harmonic motion mathematical expression.
