Long Range Plan for Information Systems from the State Board of Education.
Texas Education Agency, Austin.
The Information Systems Long Range Plan specifically addresses Goal four of the Texas State Board of Education's (SBOE's) "Long-Range Plan for Public School Education" dealing with efficient management and organization of the educational system. To facilitate this goal, the SBOE in 1986 approved and directed the Texas Education Agency to implement a Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS). The primary focus of the PEIMS is the development of a strategic information system capable of facilitating the information and decision support requirements of the SBOE, the agency, and local education agencies. This publication describes the PEIMS in eight detailed sections: (1) an extensive executive summary providing identification of the implemented strategies; (2) the planning assumptions and constraints; (3) the present status of the PEIMS system; (4) longe range plan strategy statement; (5) organizational and economic impact; (6) future policy implications; (7) high priority projects; and (8) automated resources utilization and economic options. Appended are 10 attachments describing computer requirements, capital requirements, support systems, disaster recovery systems, computer services, cost allocations, and a personnel skills inventory.
