Racial Identity in Online Spaces: Social Media's Impact on Students of Color
Chan, Jason
Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, v54 n2 p163-174 2017
College students are frequent social media users. Heightened racial tensions across college campuses and the United States have increased the volume of racial discourse on social media, suggesting a need to understand social media's influence on how students make meaning of race. Using symbolic interactionism and racial identity theories, this qualitative study examined the social media engagement of 10 undergraduate students of Color and its impact on their understanding of race and racial identity.
