This book provides a short course in the mysteries of seed structure, function, and development. Chapter 1, "Backgrounds, Hints, And Tips For Teachers And Parents," provides a basis for working with the mid-years student. Chapater 2, "Where Do I Start? What Do I Do?" provides procedural tips for science research. Chapter 3, "Peek Inside A Package," presents a description of the physical and physiologic characteristics of seeds. It also includes experiments on shape and structure. Chapter 4, "Watch A Miracle Begin," provides experiments on germination. Chapter 5, "The Man In The Moon Is Watching," encourages students to plant by moon signs and other astronomical phenomena. Chapter 6, "Seeds Sprout In Strange Places," includes Carrot Hanging Basket, Green Haired Potato, and other unusual means of planting seeds. Chapter 7, "Having A Vine Time," utilizes a sweet potato vine for many experiments and decorations. Chapter 8, "Big, Little, Or In Between," presents various experiments related to the size of seeds. Chapter 9, "Turning, Whirling, Climbing, And Sinking," provides experiments dealing with the movement of seeds in germination. Chapter 10, "Take A Deep Breath And Hold It," presents experiments related to oxygen requirements for germination. Chapter 11, "Hard Rock, Light Rock, Country Or Classic?" investigates the effects of music and/or noise on the seeds. Chapter 12, "Battery Powered," examines the effects of electric and magnetic currents on seed germination. Chapter 13, "Seeds You Don't Think About," includes bird seed and common food seeds used in a variety of germination and growth experiments. Chapter 14, "What Is A Pot?" Incorporates the use of miniature and unusual pots. It shows how almost anything from a thimble to eggs to birds nest can be used for planting. The final chapter, "Presenting The Project," shows students how to organize and present their projects to different types of audiences. (ZWH)
