Safety & Health. Resource Guide for Occupational/Technology Education.
Kirk, Albert S., Ed.
This guide is intended to alert occupational/technology teachers, teacher educators, school administrators, and industrial education supervisors to the need and importance of a strong and active safety program. Responsibilities are detailed for all individuals involved. Teacher liability is addressed. A section on emergency procedures covers reporting and analysis and provides a guide for first aid treatment of selected injuries that could occur in any industrial arts laboratory. Safety instructions are listed for handicapped students and elementary occupational/technology programs. Safety information follows for use of industrial materials, chemicals and hazardous waste, personal protective equipment, hand tool safety, and general laboratory safety. The next section provides 48 machine safety sheets. Each machine safety sheet provides a list of student safety tips and an evaluation form. Machine safety is divided into three instructional areas: manufacturing and construction, graphic communication, and energy and transportation. Safety sheets are also provided for portable power tool safety for 12 tools. Guidelines follow for safety in special attention areas. Other sections address facility planning and machine guarding. Technical reference material, a self-evaluation checklist, and a selected bibliography conclude the guide. (YLB)
