Language Arts Concepts for Elementary School Teachers.
Burns, Paul C., Ed.; And Others
An anthology of literature on elementary school language arts concepts is presented. Its purpose is to provide specific content that may help prospective and practicing teachers to recognize the role of language content in teaching. The anthology is divided into seven parts. Part One presents a general picture of the language arts curriculum that is informative and that sets the stage and tone for the remainder of the book. Part Two provides the teacher with basic information about language. The articles in Part Three provide a beginning study of such topics as (1) language in the school, (2) sequence of language development, (3) theories of language acquisition, (4) impact of environmental influences on language development and differences, and (5) language pathology. The articles in Part Four provide background information that will promote better understanding of the newer content of elementary school language arts materials and greater ease in reading contemporary professional journals. Part Five contains several articles detailing the basics of interesting children's literature. The articles in Part Six deal with effective listening and oral communication. Part Seven contains articles dealing with the teaching additional communication skills in English. (Author/CK)
