This document is a practical guide to demonstrating the value of school-to-careers preparation for all students and to debunking outdated stereotypes and false assumptions surrounding school-to-careers and vocational education programs. Part 1 explains the importance of political and policy advocacy in public education and outlines strategies for working with and through elected government representatives to achieve goals for students and educators. Part 2 is a collection of fact sheets, reports, and article clips from American Vocational Association (AVA) publications and other materials useful for waging campaigns about education policy. Included among the materials are information sheets and forms that may be photocopied for distribution to policymakers and the public and fact sheets that may be customized with facts and figures about local vocational and school-to-careers programs. Part 3 is a promotion guide that contains step-by-step instructions for planning promotional campaigns and events to create public support in the community. Appended are five papers and a current catalog of promotional materials available from the AVA. The papers' titles are as follows: "Going to Market?"
