Fertility and Female Employment: Problems of Causal Direction.
Cramer, James C.
American Sociological Review, v45 n2 p167-90 Apr 1980
Considers multicollinearity in nonrecursive models, misspecification of models, discrepancies between attitudes and behavior, and differences between static and dynamic models as explanations for contradictory information on the causal relationship between fertility and female employment. Finds that initially fertility affects employment but that, in the long run, employment affects fertility. (GC)
