The Rural Community College as an Administrative Labor Market
Allen, Nathan T.; Cejda, Brent D.
Community College Journal of Research and Practice, v31 n4 p261-269 Apr 2007
External culture acts as a powerful force on rural community colleges and the presidents that lead them. This article examines whether rural community colleges comprise an administrative labor market, based on the careers of 69 chief academic officers employed in rural community colleges. Findings indicate the characteristics of both an occupational and a firm labor market in rural community colleges. Implications for individuals aspiring to be the chief academic officer, for rural community colleges, and for future labor-market research are discussed. (Contains 3 tables.)
