ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Delaware Valley University
The topic of specialized accreditation is considered in relationship to its impact on the quality of community college business education. As higher education has entered into an era of enhanced accountability research is necessary to understand what factors may influence quality student learning and competency. This study examines the impact of Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs accreditation on the quality of business education; as described by the internal and external stakeholders at a suburban Philadelphia Community College. This research study is based upon a case analysis using a phenomenological methodology. Structured, in-depth interviews were conducted involving administrators, faculty, staff, and students to allow each participant group to "tell their own story" regarding how ACBSP accreditation had impacted the quality of business education from their perspective. The data revealed that at this one institution, the impact of ACBSP accreditation was present in the improvement of academic programs and courses, student learning outcome assessment, and enhanced opportunities for students to intern with business. Furthermore, internal and external stakeholder engagement was perceived to improve the quality of business education for students.
