This paper presents recent information on the use of mass communication to combat the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) epidemic in Latin America. The paper takes up the following topics: (1) communication as anti-AIDS weapon; (2) the information effort lag; (3) targeting AIDS information; (4) delivering the message to health professionals; (5) anti-AIDS campaigns for Latin American publics (detailing specifics of campaigns in Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Haiti, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Venezuela); and (6) the AIDS problem in Brazil (the largest country in Latin America).
