The Role of Donor Agencies in International Education and Training. Report on a Workshop Presented by the Office of International Training of the United States Agency for International Development and the National Association for Foreign Student Affairs (Washington, D.C., April 7, 1989).
Jenkins, Hugh M.
The Donor Agencies Workshop involved individuals from a wide range of academic disciplines and other fields that helped develop the expertise of foreign students, scholars, and trainees to increase the educational and economic resources of their home countries. This report presents the remarks made by the 47 workshop participants concerning: (1) the programs themselves including selection and placement of participants, program evaluation, the number of female participants, and spouses accompanying participants; (2) fiscal concerns such as taxes, health insurance, and other costs; (3) the quality of outside classroom programs and activities; and (4) future trends and developments in foreign student education and training. Participant assessments of the program are provided including the identification of areas needing further attention such as practical training, program administration, improving communication, reentry program development, and immigration matters. A list of participants and their addresses is provided. (GLR)
