College student anti-intellectualism is defined as a general disdain of intellectual and academic endeavors. Eigenberger and Sealander (2001), using the student anti-intellectualism scale (SAIS), reported that SAIS scores were negatively correlated with openness to experience and elaborative/deep cognitive processing. Proneness to boredom, assessed with the boredom proneness scale (BPS), has been found to be negatively correlated with need for cognition, academic achievement, and satisfaction with life (Seib & Vodanovich, 1998; Harris, 2000; Watt, 1994). The goal of the present study was to determine the relationship between anti-intellectualism and proneness to boredom in college students. Results indicated that scores on the SAIS and BPS were significantly correlated in the positive direction (r = 0.619. p < 0.0001). Additionally, it was found that BPS scores were significantly lower in the older, non-traditional students compared to the younger, traditional students in this study.
