Bruno, Sam J., Ed.
These proceedings present 12 articles that suggest opportunities for scholars and practitioners to contribute to business communication. The papers are organized into four sections, each composed of three papers. The papers in Part I, Specialized Communication Techniques, are: "Does Style Affect the Reader's Image of the Writer?" (James Suchan), "A Preliminary Study of the Effects on Reader Behavior of Changes in the Order of Material Presented: A 'Discussion Paper'" (Richard Wiegand), and "Promoting Vertical Communication through Survey Feedback" (Stephen R. Axley). Part II contains papers concerned with curriculum implications: "An Investigation of Business/Organizational Communication Courses in AACSB-Accredited Schools of Business--Trends in Structure and Content" (Robert B. Mitchell, Marian C. Crawford), "A Comparative Study of Business Employers and Educators Concerning Most Significant Business Communication Topics" (Timothy W. Clipson, Marlin C. Young), and "A Long-Term Look at the Readability of Selected Business Periodicals" (Gary L. Clark, Jerry Geisler). The papers in Part III deal with gender perceptions for communication: "An Empirical Study of Sex-Characteristic Stereotypes versus Sex-Role Stereotypes Affecting Women in Management" (Leann K. Ellis, et al.), "Male-Female Differences in Communicating Job-Related Humor: An Exploratory Study" (Joe A. Cox, et al.), and "Can Sex-Biased Communication Affect Business Students' Career Decisions?" (Sallye S. Benoit, L. Wayne Shell). Part IV offers suggestions for innovative teaching and evaluation: "Video Cases" (Joseph F. Ceccio, Diana C. Reep), "Holistic Grading in Business Communications" (Lorrie M. Steerey), and "Using Personal Computer for Textual Analysis" (Arthur B. Smith). (YLB)
