New Jersey's poorest and most vulnerable children--those living in the cities--suffer even more disproportionately in many ways now than a decade ago. From the 1990s to early 2000s, children living in 25 of New Jersey's largest urban areas fared worse than statewide averages on many indicators of child well-being. In this, the Association for Children of New Jersey's (ACNJ's) first report on the well-being of children in New Jersey's urban areas, trends in 25 of New Jersey's largest urban areas are examined and compared to both statewide averages and the cities' share of children with troubles. This allows ACNJ to measure progress in the cities, compared to the state overall, hopefully providing clues to the most stubborn and troublesome problems in New Jersey's urban areas.
