The learning packet focuses on general aviation and is to be used in career awareness programs at the elementary level. It includes a document which presents a group of units on general aviation and its related careers. The units include the following: (1) aircraft manufacturing, (2) instruments and controls, (3) how airplanes fly, (4) flight planning and navigation, (5) weather, (6) careers at the airport, and (7) history of general aviation. Each unit provides a section on the unit goal, objective, strategy, resources, and sources; illustrations related to the subject matter; and instructions for learning activities. Teaching ideas for aviation education, a suggested teaching strategy called the Compass Rose Game, and an elementary aviation glossary are provided in the document. The packet also includes posters on air travel signs and different types of cloud formations as well as five booklets on the manufacture of airplanes, flying, career opportunities in general aviation industry, historical review of flying machines, and stories about the present use of airplanes. A model airplane which can be assembled is also provided in the learning packet. (EC)
