Eco-visualizations are artworks that reinterpret environmental data with custom software to promote stewardship. Eco-visualization technology offers a new way to dynamically picture environmental data and make it meaningful to a museum population. The questions are: How might museums create new projects and programs around place-based information? How might museum educators integrate environmental education with the viewing of art? This article suggests that artists have a fundamental role to play in creating work that "translates" site-specific environmental data, once solely the domain of scientists, into easily accessible visual narratives. Artistic productions based on changing streams of environmental data create novel and challenging opportunities for museums and museum educators. (Contains 21 notes and 3 figures.)
