National Longitudinal Study Planning Conference, October 1-3, 1975. Final Paper from the Panel.
Howard, Walter R.
This planning conference was one in a series of such conferences aimed at providing continuous guidance for the development of the National Longitudinal Study of the High School Class of 1972 (NLS) a study designed to discover what happens to young adults after they leave high school, and to relate this information to earlier educational experiences and personal or biographical attributes. The topics under discussion at this conference were analysis plans for the second and third follow-up data. The panel recommended that: (1) descriptive data should be made available to users in a timely fashion; (2) the contractor should have more explicit guidance on research priorities for the project; (3) analysis planning seminars should be funded to focus attention on analysis issues; (4) contract monitors should provide more assistance with analytical problems; (5) the merging of data from NLS, the census, the Higher Education General Information Surveys (HEGIS), and the Dictionary of Occupational Titles should be explored; and (6) several areas should be considered for additional data collection.
